What we’re looking for…

Compass Forwarding is currently looking for an experienced Ocean Export Manager. The ideal candidate has at least 5 years’ experience in the freight forwarding industry.

The Ocean Export Manager is responsible for overseeing an 8-person department ensuring the proper and timely movement of shipments as well as client satisfaction.

About the Position

Duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Oversee and manage all export related activities in accordance with company policy and procedure
  • Support sales department to develop and maintain export revenues
  • Negotiate and monitor export rates and services to reduce operating costs and increase profitability
  • Research and resolve customer complaints on export sales, service and operational issues
  • Audit and research service performance issues and develop recommendation for improvement
  • Ensure a safe working environment through consistent practice of safety programs and procedures
  • Select and place staff, ensure staff training and define specific job assignments
  • Manage staff performance to ensure required level of productivity and organizational objectives are met
  • Utilize effective communication skills / methods with internal and external customers

Work Schedule

New York Office M-F 8:00 am – 5:00 pm EST

Qualifications

This is a management position, as such it requires exceptional interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and communication (verbal and written) skills.

Education & Experience

Bachelors or Associate's degree preferred and three years minimum of related experience.

3-5 years of related supervisory/management and export/international experience.

Computer Skills

Compass is a paperless company and as such we heavily rely on technology. While we will train on our programs, a fundamental level of comfort with a personal computer and windows operating system is required.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)

Previous experience with IES is a plus

Familiar with CargoWise is a HUGE plus
